Vanguardian Movement

Anomalies - A Time-Travel Graphic Novel. Boy, howdy, the pages are flying fast & furiously awesome! For the past half-year, we, the curators of the DANGER-verse, have been serving up fulsome portions of The Anomaly and The Vanguardian, as we delve into their origins and prepare the world for their amazing adventures to come! We are now at the half-way point in what might be called issue zero. A style of jazz that the vanguard quickly recognized as new and exciting talk radio is often regarded as being in the vanguard of the conservative movement Recent Examples on the Web As so often, Community stood at the vanguard of a cultural shift, and probably pushed it along.

It’s been some time since I touched base. I had to pull back due to the perennial Battle of the Sinuses.

I wish pharmaceuticals could help; however, they seem to have the same results as a lobotomy with me. With some good teas and local honey, I’m able to regain limited function. Enough of thatDave Thomas and I are really glad to re-post the first 17 pages of ANOMALIES: Book One – Time Chasm! It’s been a huge itch that has needed scratching. I might have said it before, but my “2011 self” hired my “2018 self” to ink over his pencils. What separates us is about 17-18000 hrs of constant practice and “dialing in” on a comfortable style. I didn’t ink the original pencils for the first postings.

However, I want to respect “Karl ’11” and his efforts. What we hope you get is a continuity of style reflecting our development. DANGER COMICS evolved as we evolved. Now, Dave and I have a shorthand, but, are always trying to raise the bar to give you better “rippin’ yarns!” It’s a restoration, not a remake! For those new to DANGER, you will see right off the bat that it’s in black and white. Our intentions were fueled by our mutual love of classic “film noir,” and the heady days of the Saturday afternoon movie-serial. We wanted to start with that. We had to make it fun for ourselves and continue to do so in THE ANOMALY and THE VANGUARDIAN.

If it’s not fun, then why share it? We don’t do that to friends, and yes, we consider all of you who get into DANGER our friends.See you Tuesday for the ANOMALIES post!Karl – The Karltoonist for Danger Comics.

Hello from DANGER!We’ve been doing some tidying up in the DANGERous lab as we approach April 24th! On that date, Danger Comics will be relaunching our flagship yarn, ANOMALIES, for a short cruise around the ether-webs. If you read Dave Thomas’ blog ( 4/10/2018 – And now, for something not completely different,) then you know it will not be a “soup-to-nuts” redux. We’re just re-posting the first 17 pages with the wrap-around cover of Book One: Time Chasm!

This is an opportunity for me to provide some continuity to the art that I doodled on the subsequent 150-odd pages. For the author, Dave Thomas, it’s an opportunity to tweak some dialogue, too! So now, it’s a great time for those new & veteran to DANGER! Go to the top of the site page & read (reread) ANOMALIES, the rippin’, sci-fi, time travel yarn the was the “Big Bang” of the DANGERverse!Having spent a week with rock rolled in front of my cave, I’ve emerged rejuvenated & ready to wreak some rippin’ yarnage! It was good to charged the batteries. As I’ve probably mentioned, there’s always a bit of “postpartum” feelings after I finish a run for DANGER.

With THE VANGUARDIAN, it was more-so because “The V” is writ & doodled by me with Dave kindly editing & giving me storytelling advice. But, Einian, Nim & Merl will be back in Ch.3: The Acorn of Truth.

Once again, go to the top of the site page to read The Vanguardian- To Date. But, before “The V” returnsThe ANOMALY will return in his third adventure posting after the ANOMALIES short run!

Things continue to be weird in 1947 as Jeff, the Anomaly; Jeff, the Masked Rider; & Dinah, the cool cowgirl as they deal with a nemesis that is willing to destroy ALL time to dole out vengeance! Y’knownothing heavy.Stay tuned to more stuff before ANOMALIES hits the webs on April 24th & thanks ad infinitum to al who get into DANGER with us!Karl – the Karltoonist for DANGER COMICS. Boy, howdy, the pages are flying fast & furiously awesome! For the past half-year, we, the curators of the DANGER-verse, have been serving up fulsome portions of The Anomaly and The Vanguardian, as we delve into their origins and prepare the world for their amazing adventures to come!We are now at the half-way point in what might be called issue zero’s for both characters. We’ve hopscotched their tales in 12-page segments, much the way Marvel’s Tales to Astonish, or Strange tales, or Tales of Suspense would showcase two heroes in one issue. We think of these as issue zero’s because they allow us to define these people, showing who they are and what are the extent of their powers. We’re getting to know them in real time, just as you are as readers. But, for the next several weeks, we’re going to take a step into the near-past and revisit the first issue of Anomalies.

The reasons are twofold. Firstly that first Danger Comics Corp outing was inked by Trina Teo, who did a great job. But, she left the project 17 pages into the first issue. After that, with the able help of Gordon Klimes, Karl got his inking tools together and increased his workload incalculably. The pages began flowing again, and Anomalies enjoyed a six-issue run, which established The Anomaly as a top-tier character in the DANGER-verse.

That brings up the second reason for today’s announcement – Karl Ottersberg has become a name to be reckoned with, an artist to watch! Book 1But, the first issue of Anomalies now needs to be updated, in order to give the art throughout that book a consistent look. It’s a wonderfully convoluted story to begin with, we don’t need or want the reader to be taken out of it by conflicting inking styles. Good though they both may be, they are very different. We thank Trina, and admire her work, but we also think our flagship story should be as meticulously presented as can be. To this end, Dave Thomas will be tweaking the narrative a bit as well. So, we hope you enjoy these black & white pages as much as we enjoyed creating, and recreating them! They will run in serial fashion, via weekly posts, up to the point where the pages no longer need updating. At that point, we’ll resume the exploration of The Anomaly’s powers for twelve pages.

Following that, T he Vanguardian will have a 12-page run. That should take us up to the end of the year. So, jump on and hang tight!

Life’s no fun without a little DANGER in it!!! Hello, folks. We’re on a bit of a break, but I’ll be in frequent contact in the ether. With the second chapter of THE VANGUARDIAN: Vol.1: Kings & Pawns finished, I want to take a moment to review, and give you a tidbit or two about “The V” going forward. SoSPOILER WARNING!

Literature

Go to the top of the site page to read the VANGUARDIAN – To Date. Chapters 1 & 2 add up into a neatly packed 24 pages. If you’re new to DANGER, then register free for alerts, updates, etc.Chapter One: Illumination. We open with a cascade of strange visions within the mind of Einian. A familiar, female voice recounts the saga of the Enlilians, a venerable civilization, as they take measures to leave their dying planet. Over many years, they construct an ark, the planetissimal, out of a portion of their planet. The elders of their race put their trust into an artificial construct, the Overseer, to shepherd them as they venture into the cosmos while sleeping within their “eggs.” We are made aware that Einian has no love for the Enlilians and sees the Overseer as his nemesis.

The narrator continues to recount the Enlilian’s voyage as the visions shift to a variety of worlds they supplant until two elders remain – Votan and Hubilax. However, suitable worlds are sparse as they venture to the edge of the galaxy over countless millennia. Then, the Overseer finds Earth and sends the two remaining Elders. At this point, Einian becomes more agitated with the revelation of the narrator – his mother. The visions become more quixotic for Einian. Meanwhile, we jump into the “real” world as we see Einian in a monitor. Merl, off panel, relates that Einian is “having quite the dream.” We jump back into Einian’s visions of the ante-diluvian world as his mother recounts the course of the Game.

The Game uses humanity as “pieces on the board” as the Enlilians nudge civilizations in advancement to determine the Elder best suited for settlement. However, humanity thwarted the Enlilians and their Game. Einian’s mother informs him that this has happened twice due to someone like him after “Hy-brysil and Atlantis sank beneath the waves.” Einian’s mother leaves him with the cryptic words, “Help her.

Join him.”Einian is becoming more confused and distressed.Back in the waking world, Merl calls Nim to inform her of Einian’s perceived distress. Within the visions, Einian is thrust though visions of Hy-Brysil’s cataclysm. Nim is compelled to assist Merl in an intervention as Einian “is waking in terror” of being found by the Overseer!Chapter Two: INTERVENTION!We pick up with Nim, weird feet and all, in communication with Merl as Einian is in the throes of a psychotic break! With a swarm of dragonflies behind her, Nim tells Merl, revealed as a fetus within an automaton, to purge Einian’s “egg.” But, it’s too late!

Einian’s psychotic break manifests itself in a psionic tremor that hurls Nim backward with tremendous force. Nim recovers and tells Merl to call Wei at the house and tell him “psionic protocols.” Merl informs Nim that Einian is going into the “pool” as Nim arrives at a small island in the middle of a lake.

She realizes that she will have to “shed her skin” in order to save Einian. Nim runs to a dolmen atop a hill where crystals erupt from the ground open a hole into the hill. Nim jumps into a massive, crystal cave with an island in the middle of an underground lake.Back in Einian’s “terror-vision,” the Overseer threatens Einian as it declares that “the Endgame” is commencing. However, pushing through the nightmare is the vision of Einian’s mother with a six-winged version of a native-American, dragonfly symbol ahead of her. Einian is fading as he finds it hard to breathe.Nim plunges into the water.

She begins her metamorphosis into an six-winged, humanoid dragonfly and saves Einian from drowning. Furthermore, she enters Einian’s mind to save it, now that his body is out of danger. Within his nightmare, Nim sees visions of her world that Einian should not have along with others from his nightmare.

Also, she sees herself transforming into a giant insect version of a dragonfly – her “base self.” To assist her, Nim meets Einian’s wife, Sikam, in the form of a portrait. She represents one of Einian’s strongest “echoes” from his past. She lights the way for Nim through the void with a flaming arrow. Nim must rescue Einian before she is trapped by her base self in his nightmare. Einian is hiding in blackness from the Overseer.

The vision of the Overseer finds them, and Einian is on the threshold of another psionic tremor from which he and Nim may not survive! Nim decides to risk both their minds and rip him from the night-terror. Successful, Nim, Merl, and Wei, an Asian man in a Buddhist monk’s garb, stand over a peacefully sleeping Einian on an examination table. However, Nim is concerned as she has a theory that Einian’s visions may have been part of the Overseer he absorbed at the time of his “changing.” She must consult the crystals on the island, seething with old memories of a time before their meeting.Chapter Three: The Acorn of Truth. We’ll explore Einian’s origins; how he met Nim, and stuff with legendary swords and changing. Loads of aforementioned details will be put into context. Meanwhile, feel free to read and reread the first 24 pages!

There are visual clues and “easter eggs.”Soon, Dave Thomas, the yarn-master at DANGER, will be posting some updates about our plans for the next drop of posts in a couple o’ weeks. Some DANGERous stuff will surely ensue. Thanks for your support and remain in DANGER!Karl – the Karltoonist at DANGER COMICS. Greetings All!It’s been a minute and I’ve been chomping at the bit to throw a few words into the ether about Nim. She’s is a major player in THE VANGUARDIAN and carries the narrative in Ch.2: INTERVENTION! So, here it comesSPOILER WARNING: Before going forward, go to the top of the dangercomicscorp.com page to click ‘The Vanguardian – To Date’ link. It’s there for those new to Danger Comics and those who wish to reread “The V.” Of course, you can do this with ALL our rippin’ yarns. We cut our teeth with time-travel; and you can go back to reread them ad infinitum (Note: We’re paradox-free in case you’re allergic.

I haven't found a lot of deaths except when trying to make a given spec work. It makes me feel better about all my deaths:) It's a shame this game/forum doesn't seem to be that popular on GOG.I'm playing on Normal difficulaty and I am currently near the end of Chapter 2 so some of this may be inaccurate. Melkathi: I am very happy to hear you died a lot. Aarklash legacy reviews complaints.

– K.)Nim is not native to Earth. Nim’s planet, a “water world “ peppered with islands, was dispatched by the Enlilian construct, the Overseer, early in it’s cosmic manifest destiny.

Not able to adapt to the environment during the first rounds of the Game, the Overseer had the planet’s resources harvested. This included taking many individuals to “study” for their psionic and “morphing” abilities. The strongest of these abilities resided in the caste of Queens. Nim is a Queen. Her full name is Nim’Way Pen. Nim is her given name.

“Way” is the caste of “Queens. “Pen” is the name of her tribe, or “hive.” Nim’Way Pen, being a Queen, was able of autonomous thought, while her subjects were not. Without their Queen, Nim’s subjects died in massive numbers of nothing less than confusion & loneliness. As far as Nim knows, she is the sole survivor of her planet. But, that’s for The Vanguardian: Kings and Pawns: Ch.3 – The Acorn of Truth. As you might have noticed, Nim’s true form is a humanoid dragonfly.

Three pairs of wings indicate her royal status. The wings are able to coil and retract into the six nodes on her back.

Nim has a tripartite brain with the forward mass dedicated to psionic transmissions through the central antenna. The central antenna can retract between her protective horns.

Primary vision is binocular with inner and outer eyelids. She can see in full-spectrum and ultraviolet in the daylight, and infrared in darkness at will. Her endoskeleton, ecto-skeletal plates, teeth and nails are composed of an “organic quartz” material and similar in hardness. In the back of her mouth at either mandible joint, is a gland. Each gland contains an inert chemical.

When Nim discharges them, they combine into a flaming liquid with the heat of a welding torch. However, it is at the heart of her physiology that we get the “nice lady” pruning her roses in the final pages of The Vanguardian: Ch.1 – Illumination.Nim is a type of xenomorph. Don’t confuse her with the xenomorph designed by Giger, and brought to the big screen by Ridley Scott. Nim’s method of gathering useful DNA is much more pleasant. A good snog is all that is required if a saliva swab isn’t available. “The Alien” is a parasitoid that feeds on the host from within until it dies well, in a most unpleasant and messy way! When the usable DNA is collected, it is replicated and stored in the pink, glandular growths on Nim’s extremities.

When submerged in water, these growths secrete a substance forming a chrysalis around her. Within her cocoon, her endo-skeleton, comprised of over 600 bones, arrange themselves to approximate the collected DNA’s model.

A “skin” is formed and she emerges from the chrysalis a “new woman,” in a sense. But, as you’ve seen in the pages of The Vanguardian, Nim can’t “morph” completely. Her “wing nodes,” double-lidded eyes, and those “weird feet” remain.

Just to be clear, Nim as the “nice lady,” does not become a human female physiologically throughout. Her new “skin” is human, though. Furthermore, she can only change into a lifeform of approximate dimension.

She can not change gender regardless of the host’s gender. To return to her “self,” Nim must submerge herself in water, once more. Not needing a cocoon, Nim can change through force of will. The return to her “self” is more painful the longer she remains in the other “skin,” also.Okey-doke, Karl, but, why a dragonfly?Well, they’re my favorite insect. They have 360-degree vision that takes up 80% of their brains.

They see everything! They start in the water and hatch into the air. They thrive in two “worlds.” Each of their 4 wings are capable of independent movement. They fly better than well, anything. In myths throughout the world, they represent transformation, victory, traversing between worlds. They are thought to be fairies in disguise; bringers of water; and benevolent nature spirits. Because of their short life-spans, they’re a reminder to live in the moment.

I wanted to project those attributes onto Nim. Considering what’s she’s been through, she finds joy in the moment pruning roses and being in nature weird feet and all.See you for the penultimate post of THE VANGUARDIAN: Ch.2 – INTERVENTION!Karl – The Karltoonist for DANGER COMICS.
